Conservation is seeking one (1) willing volunteer to fill the current vacancies on the Commission.
The Conservation Commission is comprised of a total of seven (7) volunteers that meet every 3 weeks on Thursday evenings at 7pm (currently still via Zoom). The Commission primarily acts on applications relative to the Wetlands Protection Act and Southborough Wetlands Bylaw & Regulations. The Commission also has the care and control of several open space properties and Conservation Restrictions in which we oversee or work with relevant boards such as Breakneck Hill Conservation Land, Chestnut Hill Farm, Halloran Property, Southborough Golf Course, and more.
No experience is necessary to serve on the Conservation Commission as long as you have a willingness to learn about wetland protection and participate in discussions. As a new Commissioner, you will have access to the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions (MACC) handbook and orientation presentation. Ongoing training and information is available if interested and is offered by both staff and MACC/others.
The Commission is currently staffed with a full-time Conservation Agent and part-time Assistant. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Agent, Melissa Danza, at mdanza@southboroughma.com or 508-281-8984. You can check out the Commission's website that has more information.
If interested, please submit an application by clicking here. Please note that attendance to at least one (1) Conservation Commission meeting will be required prior to appointment to speak with current Commission members and answer any questions.
