Plumbing & Gas Permits & Inspections

All plumbing and gas work in the Town of Southborough is required to be performed by a licensed plumbing or gas installer. This work is regulated by CMR 248 2, the Massachusetts State Plumbing Code.

Plumbing and gas permits are issued in the Building Department office. Permit application forms are available in the office. Applications may be submitted between 8 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and Friday until Noon.

Permit application forms can also be obtained electronically on the website of The Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters. These are found under "Permits" on the attached website. If a downloaded form is used it must be submitted to the Southborough Building Department, not to the state.

It is essential that all permit applications be submitted with a current insurance certificate identifying the Town of Southborough as the certificate holder.

Note: A separate plumbing and gas permit shall be filed for each dwelling unit or tenant space. The fee is doubled if work is started without obtaining a plumbing or gas permit in conformance with the MA Fuel Gas and Plumbing Codes.
